The Commodity Distribution Unit has applied for a grant with USDA which will allow NSLP schools to purchase minimally processed and fresh foods from locally socially disadvantaged farmers. A list of farmers is being developed and will be sent to you so that you may begin building a relationship with them. We are anticipating that the flow of funds will come quarterly and not all at the beginning of the grant allowing funds to be spread out over the two (2) year period.
This is a two-year grant which will need to be approved by the State Legislature before funding is made available. We have received $8,300.00 for this grant.
